Dr. Michael Filbin is the Director of Clinical Research in the Emergency Department at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) in Boston, Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at Harvard Medical School, and an Associate Member of the Broad Institute of Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University. His research involves immune profiling, early detection, and management of septic shock. Dr. Filbin is NIH-funded to study molecular signatures of sepsis utilizing single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) with a multidisciplinary team of physicians and scientists from MGH and the Broad Institute. Dr. Filbin is funded by Day Zero Diagnostics to perform clinical validation of genomic-based rapid pathogen detection technology. Dr. Filbin received a bachelor’s degree in Aeronautics and Aerospace Engineering from the University of Washington in Seattle and embarked on a brief career in engineering at the National Aeronautics & Space Administration (NASA). He attended Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, completed a residency in Emergency Medicine at the Harvard-Affiliated Emergency Medicine Residency (HAEMR) program in Boston, and received a master’s degree in Clinical Epidemiology from the Harvard School of Public Health.
