Alejandra Molina Sánchez, MD. Instituto Nacional de Ciencias Médicas y Nutrición Salvador Zubirán, Mexico City.
I am a pediatrician graduated from Hospital Infantil de México Federico Gómez in Mexico City. I began working as a clinician in Dr. Miguel Ruiz Palacios and Dr. Sandra Rajme's protocols. Through their knowledge and passion for their work, they both inspired me to peruse a career in medical research.
I am currently a first-year student of the Master of Science in Medical Sciences at Instituto Nacional de Ciencias Médicas y Nutrición Salvador Zubirán. I still work with Dr. Miguel Ruiz Palacios and his team in a cooperative cohort with Cincinnati Children's Hospital and Dr. Mary Allen Staat as the principal investigator. In the cohort, we focus on understanding the natural history of infection and immune response, either from natural infection or from vaccination, to influenza and SARS-CoV-2.
As a pediatrician and young clinical researcher, I am interested in understanding why some children present mild symptoms while other present with severe disease when infected with the same pathogen, how can the infection with a certain pathogen affect the development of children and if so, what are the factors that determine the extent and duration of this affection.
