Leena B. Mithal, MD MSCI is Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, Attending Physician in Pediatric Infectious Diseases at the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago, Program Director for the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Fellowship, and Director of the Master of Science in Clinical Investigation. Her clinical-translational research focus is perinatal/neonatal infection, host immune response, and the health outcomes. She studies novel cord blood and placental diagnostics for early onset neonatal sepsis, the effect of SARS-CoV-2 in pregnanacy, perinatal microbial transmission of multidrug resistant bacteria, infant microbiome, and congenital CMV. Her research agenda encompasses both a primary microbial focus and a broader perinatal exposome landscape, with the goal of informing new diagnostic and therapeutic interventions. Dr. Mithal is a Fellow of PIDS and of the Society for Pediatric Research.
