Katherine Brewer Carlson, Ph.D., M.P.H., is an epidemiologist with extensive expertise in infectious diseases, vaccines, and oncology, currently serving as Senior Director of Infectious Disease Epidemiology for Moderna's Norovirus and Early Development programs. Since joining Moderna in 2020, Katherine has been instrumental in establishing the company's epidemiology strategy and capabilities, building genomic surveillance networks, and providing epidemiology expertise across Moderna's entire portfolio, including infectious disease vaccines, rare diseases, autoimmune diseases, gene editing, and oncology.
Before her tenure at Moderna, Katherine held significant roles in industry within Epidemiology and Outcomes Reserach organizations, managing real-world data strategies and designing and leading innovative observational studies. Her work at Advocate Health Care involved directing the Patient Centered Outcomes Research department, where she managed a team of epidemiologists and oversaw operations for a large, multi-site clinical trial.
Katherine holds a Ph.D. in Epidemiology from the University of Illinois at Chicago, an M.P.H. in Epidemiology from Boston University, and a B.A. in Biology and French from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She has been recognized with multiple academic and career awards and has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications.
