Motoyasu Onishi, PhD, is the subgroup leader of the infectious diseases research area at Shionogi & Co., Ltd., leading global infectious disease policy initiatives and access projects. With over 15 years of experience, he has worked on the early/late-stage discovery of new antibiotics, antivirals, and vaccines at Shionogi. He has led numerous research collaborations with academic scientists and biotech companies in Japan and the US. He served for the development of the marketed antiviral Baloxavir marboxil as a scientist.
Currently, his work focuses on life-cycle management research of Cefiderocol and the development of Cefiderocol-Xeruborbactam and Cefutibuten-Xeruborbactam. He received his PhD in immunology from Osaka University Graduate School of Medicine in Osaka, Japan.
